Ableton Producer Program Modules

Beats & Pieces : DAW Track Building in Ableton

Within days into class, you will be working your way around Ableton, as it serves you long-term as one of your most essential creative tools. Through a practical hands-on teaching style from veteran instructors, you will explore key concepts like MIDI Programming, Clips, Creative jamming, Sampling, Warping and Arranging. You will explore Live’s inspiring flagship instruments and plug-ins like Operator, Wavetable, Roar and the Glue Compressor and all standard tools like EQs, Compressors and Effects to get your tracks stand out. Our classes are always packed with assignments and projects to make sure you consistently practice music production and get expert feedback. Unlike watching tutorial videos this is the best path towards accelerated learning. We teach in Ableton in small classes of less than 8 students in sound treated labs, so you will get individual attention and have fun collaborating with your talented batch mates. If you’re a PC user – don’t worry, Ableton is virtually the same on Mac and PC

See our Ableton DAW Course page for more details.

Sound Lab : Synthesis & Sound Design

It is impossible to stand out as an artist or producer if you don’t carve out a sonic identity for yourself. Our Sound Lab- Synthesis & Sound Design module will teach you the language of Synthesizers and Samplers. We use everything from industry standard software plug-ins like Serum and Arturia Plug-in suite to exotic hardware synthesizers like the Juno 106 & 60, Moog, DX7 and Mellotron to take your music to the next level. While many pro electronic producers stick with only Subtractive Synthesis during their entire career, you will go way beyond exploring Granular, Additive, Wavetable, and FM types of synthesis. This section also covers sampling, glitch, resampling, and additional beat-making techniques to broaden your sound.

We will introduce you to the art of Reverse Engineering sounds in our Sound Labs. Listen to your favorite records and dissect the sounds in them. You can then either choose to use them as is or it can be a  starting point to start developing your own sound libraries. Sound Design is a fast growing business in every area of the music industry from Hit Pop and EDM records to Video Games, VR, Film & TV.

See our Synthesis & Sound Design page for more details on this module and the complete hardware synth list in our studios.

Mixing & Mastering

There’s so much music on the internet and everyone is trying to get noticed. So, it really pays to make sure your mixes and final masters stand out. If they are lacking clarity, depth, and punch look no further. Our superior roster of instructors will share their knowledge in modules everything you need to create master-quality mixes, saving yourself a fortune on hiring professional engineers and studio time in the future!

Mixing Module: Learn the fundamentals behind acoustics and how to set up your hope studio properly. In our state of the art Studio A, learn about Compressors, EQs, Reverbs, Delays and other creative effects there by giving your fans and clients the best listening experience. We also dive into solving “mix-translation” problems from huge sound systems and controlled studio environments to Cars, phones and in-ears. Lets make sure your songs sound great everywhere!

Mastering Module: This course is designed for today’s multi-genre modern artists, producers and engineers. While being completely focused on mastering “in-the-box”, we provide you with the ability to achieve that release ready “commercial sound” through the understanding of various analog circuits and effect processors. At the end of class, you will leave with a fully mastered track fit for all streaming platforms and radio. You will also learn the steps and workflow to continue improving and forwarding your abilities for decades to come.

See our Mixing and Mastering pages for more info.

Music Mentoring in our Studios

Online tutorial Videos and gear manuals will only take you so far. Whats the use of learning Music Production, Theory and your DAW if you can’t apply it immediately to your music? Learning without a feedback system leaves you open to mistakes and slows your progress.

This is why we added Mentoring to our Producer Programs. We will let students pick an instructor of their choice and work with them in our state of the art Studio A. You can witness your songs transform using everything you have learned in class combined with the experience of your instructor. Plug in your laptop and feel free to use the outboard gear and hardware synths to make your tracks stand out! Collaborate with your batch mates and write your next hit with the instructors mentoring. We want you to leave with release ready records out of the Producer Program.

    Our Testimonials

The course does a good job of expressing the importance of all aspects of music. Synthesis, business, phycology, marketing/branding are all building blocks of the aspiring musician pyramid. Armed with knowledge from each category (and of course good work ethic), anyone can navigate the long, crazy road to becoming a successful and happy musician.

    Daniel Ferenbach

Class sizes were perfect, so there was a great balance of one on one instruction and instruction on broad topics.

    Adam Booker

The course was very enjoyable, challenging, and fulfilling. The Garnish School is a great space to learn the fundamentals essential to becoming a strong, well-developed music producer. The instructors took the time to teach & explain complex software techniques, and designed special classes to illustrate specific aspects of music making,  and vocal recording techniques. The instructors were varied in their careers & producing styles, making for well-rounded instruction. The instructors were fun to engage with and were interested in building the students and our experiences. I'm so happy this school came to LA from London, and that I made the commitment to complete this course. I feel ready to jump forward and continue working on my music. Thanks to all the Garnish instructors and to Dave for creating this fantastic school!

    Spencer Barnes @jaemisson

The Electronic Music Academy is a good time and super informative. I've been writing and producing music for the past year. There was so much I wanted to transcribe from my mind to my DAW, but I just didn't fully know how. Fortunately, the EMA course changed that in just a few short weeks. Very exciting! Not to mention the Garnish LA folks are super cool.

    Patricia Seely

I came in knowing literally nothing and now I can make a quality track in just a day or two. Simple as that.

    Jason Heffler @fluenceemusic

The course helped me learn exactly what I wanted to learn and more. It was super hands-on, which will help me retain what I learned in the course for a long time.

    Benjamin S Shirken

I loved the small classes that made it easy to interact with the instructor and let you tailor the course to your needs and areas of improvement.

    Brazzabelle

I went to school at Stanford for three years and had been taught by many great professors. But I'm thoroughly convinced that my Ableton teacher in the Electronic Music Academy was the best teacher I've ever had. The way he mixes new content, exercises, and little projects is really affective, and I felt like I could do pretty much whatever I want in Ableton.

    William Huang

A lot of knowledgable teachers that are down to earth and easy going… amazing school all round!
